Adam

YHWH made the whole world for you
He set every piece in place
Preparing a perfect home to receive you
Light to dispel darkness
Air to breathe
Dry land to live upon
Waters to sustain life
Fruits and vegetables to feed you
Animals subject to you
Everything was good and pleasing

YHWH formed you by His own hand
Shaped you in His own image
Filled you with His very breath
Esteemed you above all creation
You were the culmination of His work
He loved you
You were very good, very pleasing

YHWH married you to the perfect wife
She was beautiful and innocent
The only suitable counterpart in all the world
She was your helper
She was your lover
Formed of your flesh and bearing YHWH’s likeness
She was very good, very pleasing

YHWH knew you; He walked with you
In a perfect paradise, you were His treasure
He poured out His blessings on you
Until you lacked nothing
Your every need was met

YHWH’s commands were not long
Not burdensome
Not impossible
Not harsh
You had but one rule
And in exchange for obedience, the world was yours

Man! Your faith failed!
Was His character not enough?
Did He fail to prove His love?
Was there any doubt of his sovereignty?
Did He not give you the sum of all life?
Was He ever deceptive?
Did you ever catch Him in a lie,
That you disbelieved His word?

But you listened to the accuser
And shrank back in complacency,
When he deceived your wife.
The serpent urged you to rebellion and death
And you believed Him rather than your God
You chose Satan’s beguilement over YHWH’s truth
And traded holiness for a lie

One push and you fell over
Bringing blackness and curses upon mankind
One appeal to desire and you indulged
Casting all the world into contempt
What was once good in YHWH’s sight
Became weeds and decay

But YHWH promised a redeemer…
